   Narrative Nonfiction

The Order of the Loko: Dispatches from the New South  (2011)

Stories and essays from a rowdy weekly newspaper with ambitions larger than its budget. Covers everything from nanotech and the nuclear industry to elderly mall walkers, Christian secessionists, a man who cashed in his lotto millions to start a bikini wrestling show and the politics of a nudist colony’s annual chili cook off (and that’s not even the weird stuff).

Coming Soon / Other Projects

   Technical Writing

I’m on a brief hiatus from technical writing after spending the last decade in the government sector. I worked in “plug-n-play” mode, deployed wherever they needed a technical writer on an aggressive deadline. Projects generally centered around policy and technical design docs, procurement contracts and legalese, general communications and web content, business analysis, and application scripts.

  Copyediting

These days I’m taking select freelance gigs (currently copyediting in the personal finance space and ghostwriting for a health and wellness site). I’m also standing up a paid newsletter in the government procurement sector, targeting small businesses. In the near term, I also plan to transition into book editing. If you landed here by way of an editorial need, please feel welcome to reach out and pitch me on your project.

  Design

As a kid, I fell in love with Mad magazine and started drawing goofy comics at a young age. I’ve continued to tinker with design over the span of my career. I’ve designed and laid out everything from newspapers to print ads, flyers, posters, logos, you name it. I do my own book layouts and web design and have a hobby Redbubble site for parody shirts and stickers. I still ink silly comics from time to time, usually by request from friends and family.
